The Vice President of Security is the most senior security leadership position in the organization with direct line responsibility. This position is accountable for developing, implementing and directing a responsible security strategy and program for the organization across the company’s facilities, distribution centers, and retail locations. This senior leadership role will ensure that the company’s assets, people, and infrastructure are protected from physical threats, and that security policies and procedures align with industry standards, regulations, and best practices. This role Identifies significant security risks, designs and implements strategies and programs to prevent/reduce loss of organization assets. This individual implements risk reduction through increased security awareness. Through subordinate managers, this position will coordinate and implement site security, operations and activities to ensure protection of executives, managers, employees, physical and information assets, while ensuring optimal use of personnel and equipment. The VP of Security will work closely with cross-functional leaders in risk management, SH&E, supply chain, SG&A, and operations to deliver effective security solutions that enable business continuity.
Job Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute a company-wide physical security strategy that aligns with corporate goals, ensuring consistency across all locations.
- Advise executive leadership on physical security matters, emerging threats, and regulatory requirements.
- Continuously evaluate and enhance security policies to address evolving risks, especially those specific to consumer-packaged goods (CPG).
Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
- Conduct risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and potential threats and implement mitigation plans.
- Oversee audits, inspections, and compliance checks to ensure adherence to security protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Develop emergency response, crisis management, and business continuity plans for incidents affecting facilities and personnel.
Security Operations Management:
- Directs the security staff in identifying, developing, implementing and maintaining security processes across the organization to reduce risks, respond to incidents, and limit exposure to liability in order to reduce financial loss to the organization.
- Manage all aspects of physical security operations, including security force management, access control, and video monitoring across offices, manufacturing plants, and distribution centers.
- Researches and deploys state-of-the-art technology solutions and innovative security management techniques to safeguard organization assets.
- Oversee the design and implementation of physical security systems and technologies, such as video monitoring, intrusion detection, and access control systems.
- Coordinate with law enforcement and security contractors to ensure an effective response to security incidents.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of security professionals and contractors.
- Establish goals, KPIs, and performance standards for security personnel, fostering a culture of safety, integrity, and collaboration.
- Conduct regular training sessions and drills to maintain readiness for emergency situations.
Compliance, Investigations and Reporting:
- Ensure that all physical security practices comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, as well as any industry-specific standards.
- Develops and ensures services in response to criminal financial loss, crimes against persons, sabotage, threats, emergencies, illegal acts, and property or environmental crimes.
- Directs the approach, deployment and execution of investigations.
- Develop and manage budgets for security programs and initiatives and prepare detailed reports for executive management.
- Briefs senior and executive management on status of security issues.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Partner with key stakeholders, including Human Resources, Legal, Operations, and Risk Management, to implement security policies effectively.
- Function as the primary point of contact for security-related issues and incidents, ensuring timely and transparent communication with relevant parties.
- Stay informed of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in security management.
- Develops close relationships with high-level domestic law enforcement to include security agencies, intelligence and private sector counterparts.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, Security Management, Business Administration, or a related field (master’s preferred).
- 15+ years of experience in security management with a major corporation and/or law enforcement, intelligence, public service or private sector security organization with at least 5 years in a leadership role, ideally within the CPG, retail, or manufacturing industry.
- Proven track record in strategic planning, crisis management, and risk assessment.
- Experience with security technologies and systems, such as video systems monitoring, access control, and alarm systems.
- Strong knowledge of security regulations, compliance standards, and best practices.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple stakeholders.
